- Thinking I'll ever be a size 2 again. Bags & bags of pants out of my closet and into the donation pile. 3 pairs of brand new size 6 work pants and 1 pair of amazing size 6 stretchy skinny jeans into rotation.
- Expecting to have "productive" evenings after work and dinner-bath-bed-cleanup madness. Actually planning to relax with TV and reading, rather than planning something ambitious and feeling guilty when I end up reading or vegging.
- Reading advice about how to run my life and feeling inadequate that I
can't don't want to follow it. I don't need 5 "anchor events" in a weekend (the thought is exhausting), or to save money by checking out books & movies from the library, or to hire a nanny instead of using daycare.
- Guilt about losing it with the kids now & again. They really can be horrid. I'm not a saint. When potty-trained-for-over-a-year B decides its fun to poop in his underwear (and LAUGH ABOUT IT!), mommy will get scream-y. Also, L, you are 16 months old. Getting up at 5AM is really really old news & mommy WILL be surly and neglectful to you until 6AM.
- Nearly 50% of the blogs in my Reader. If I don't: laugh, comment, or learn something after reading, we are through. If you are reading, I do not mean you.
My size-6 body feels lighter already!
I think we had one anchor event this weekend and it was a 45 minute Gymboree class. I hear you!
ReplyDeleteAlso, YES on #2.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been a size six since junior high. :)
ReplyDeleteI think us size 6 is different than Canadian size 6...
DeleteNot so sure about that...but thanks for trying to make me feel better!
DeleteI totally blew off working this weekend, and it felt GREAT.
ReplyDeleteWe had two "anchor events" this weekend (which is a lot for us) plus a long nap this afternoon (see: blowing off work)) and it was basically the perfect amount.
The people who think nannies are less expensive than daycare are not paying taxes on their nannies, or they only need coverage 20 hours per week.
You are awesome just the way you are. Size 6 is still very very small.
How does hiring a nanny instead of day care SAVE you money?! The person who gives that advice does not live where I do.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for letting go. That is definitely the best way to keep your sanity. ;)
Oh, that one wasn't about saving money. It is just "better" to have in-home care for younger babies.
DeleteWell... it may be better in some ways... On the other hand, you could end up like a friend of mine whose daughter somehow got into the nanny's purse and ate a bunch of Xanax. Maybe my kid gets more colds and is sleep deprived, but at least at daycare I don't have to worry about THAT.
DeleteThen there are the nannies who flake on you, who get sick all the time, who bring their heroin addicted boyfriends over to your house to sexually abuse your children, or who steal your stuff. I could go on.
And that is why I went with a commercially run daycare center. My mom terrified me with tales of the old lady that was neglecting & potentially doping me up with "herbal teas" so I could sleep more. She quit her job when I was 1.
DeleteI need to join you on the guilt thing. I certainly can't NOT lose it. As for the rest, RIGHT ON. I brought some papers home to grade (which I don't normally do, but...) and am reading this instead...
ReplyDeleteLetting go is a beautiful thing. I think planning the reading/vegging is actually a bonus because then you've accomplished something rather than wondering where the night has gone. In fact, I am scheduling in reading between 9 and 10 tonight in solidarity.
ReplyDeleteI have my relaxation time scheduled every night after my daughter goes to bed. I've worked a full day, I've maxed out my interacting with people quota, and it's time to sit and watch TV while I surf the internet/read/knit/something else. My husband cannot understand it, but he is unaware that other people operate differently (but equally well or better) than he does.
ReplyDeleteI am so with you on the "if you wake me up early, be prepared for the surly"...and I'm so looking forward to the teenage years. I will wake up my daughter every weekend with a cheerful "Get up! It's 6:00!"
From the context, I'm thinking it's good that I have no idea what an anchor event is...
For a long time I watched the girls in the gym and wanted to be a size 6...then I realized my body is not made in such a way that that would ever be feasible (nor healthy). Glad you're letting go of "the old you". :)
ReplyDeleteWhat are anchor moments?
