Updates, in Bullet Form

In no particular order:

  • F&^k insomnia. seriously. I got 2 hours of sleep last night. I do not want to talk about it
  • And I just STAYED IN BED the whole time because I was afraid to go back downstairs because the F&#&ing mice are apparently back
  • Also I wrote "Stayed in bed" because the lay/lie thing confounds me
  • And when I was finally FINALLY drifting off, G started snoring. This happened 5 times until I moved into the guest room and got those 2 hours of sleep.
  • G is at home with both boys. L is home sick so he decided to pick B up from school instead of sending him to aftercare. B had it last weekend---fever/tired/vomiting. OMG I CANNOT GET IT!
  • I am taking a break from proofreading the grant I'm turning in tomorrow as well as some talks I am giving Saturday
  • My MIL is coming tomorrow, for 22 days. Insomnia may or may not be related.
  • I am traveling to a conference Sunday-Friday (the conference is actually M-Th) Its an area of research I am trying really hard to break into AND I'm rooming with a BF that moved far away so YAY!
  • Bathing suit shopping. 7th circle of hell, amiright? I need to return yet another one. UGH. Recs for good separates where the bottom comes in a mid-rise but isn't TOO covering/frumpy and a bikini top that is actually supportive but also not TOO covering/frumpy? I can't find that holy grail. Also they have to have free shipping AND returns.
  • I learned not to ask G for his "honest opinion" re: above. We shan't talk about that, either.
  • We finished all the evaluation with B and got our diagnoses=mild/borderline ASD and ADHD. He started a social skills therapy session weekly. The school was supposed to call last week to discuss further evals and IEP but I haven't heard so I need to call them.
  • We finished House of Cards season 4. What to watch next?
  • To end on a positive note, its beautiful outside. I was falling asleep so I took a little walk and got lunch from a food cart.
  • Also planning a nice date night plus a dinner with friends while MIL is here.
Hope you guys are enjoying your spring!

  1. Have you tried Athleta for bathing suits?

    1. That's what I had in mind for next up, I already picked out a couple I liked!

  2. My bathing suit is Lands End. I like it okay for those issues above.

I'm sorry about the insomnia. Whatever happened with your prescription meds plan? I know I sound like a drug fiend, but Lunesta seriously changed my life. I'm now weaning myself off it. Have not taken the plunge to try not taking it at all...that's scary, but down to 1 mg from 3.

    1. I forgot to write about that. I got ambien but a very long stern warning not to take it more than a couple times a week...and only 15 pills for the month. So iron it Tuesday and "couldn't" take it again. Lands end I looked at but no free returns and I know their sizing is weird from past experience. They have limited options

    2. FWIW, with really bad patches of insomnia I've been told to take pills for 10-14 days straight to 'reset' and then stop using...

    3. She terrified me with talk of "rebound insomnia". oh man the ambien works MAGIC. I took it again last night and slept for 8 hours. a little groggy but better than NO SLEEP. I need to figure out how to get more pills (and now I sound like the junky I was trying not to become...)

    4. What about alternating unisom and ambien for a bit?

Ambien never worked that well for me, but Lunesta is a dream. Pretty much literally!

Glad you had a good night!

    5. good idea, I think I'll try that. I never did try the unisom because I actually slept OK for a few days last week.

  3. One piece? Totally available in non-frumpy styles. Check out swimoutlet.

    1. One pieces highlight my "problem area" and I have a VERY short torso so fabric just bunches up and I look frumpy. I determined that a 2 piece is way more flattering generally

  4. YES to athleta (and to 2 pieces. agree more flattering overall.)
i have one that is basically short shorts for the bottom, and recently got this one: http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1026476&vid=1&pid=964869122 plus some short-type bottoms and I am very impressed with the support of the top.

    1. i'm going to order from athleta for sure. there is a store nearby so I can return there which is easier for me than waiting in line at the post office, actually!

    2. I was looking at the "twister" and the other one with the strappy back. The halter is cute, too, but I already have a halter & after a while it cuts into the back of my neck

  5. also I am really sad about your sleep. and i know having a diagnosis is partially good and partially stressful. that said, hopefully that will be really helpful once B is treated with what he needs.

  6. And when I was finally FINALLY drifting off, G started snoring.

I feel your pain. My DH is an awful snorer. When I was nursing, I couldn't sleep in the same room with DH at all, because I'd finally get a chance to sleep (granted by baby) but could not, because he was sawing logs in my effing ear. These days, we have a routine: I go to bed before him and try to fall asleep before he comes up (I usually can), because if he snores I have no chance of falling asleep, but if I am already sleeping we're OK. Unless one of the kids wakes me up; then I am screwed again and often end up sleeping the rest of the night in the home-office chair or on the sofa. So I feel your pain. I wonder if sleeping next to these snorers affects the quality of our sleep, like never hitting REM, so we can never get enough rest.

Re swimsuit, I have giant cantaloupes, so mostly it's a challenge to find a suit to envelop them; I have a couple of simple but supportive all black one-piece suits from Lane Bryant (because only fat women are allowed to have big boobs, apparently).

    1. Several stores now have bra-sizing (including larger sizes) for tops (not my issue, but I've seen them). Mix & match sizing on 2 pieces is a god-send for me, because I need a bigger size bottom vs. top usually.
G doesn't usually snore, but has been recently. Its better than the past years when he would have violent sneezing fits all night during spring allergy season and I banned him from our room.

  7. Second lands end for tops. I mix and match - get tops that tie in the back so a bit more forgiving on the size. You can return for free at Sears.

So sorry about the sleep. That sounds terrible :(

    1. I also have lands end (last season's). Don't know about their return policy.

    2. there isn't a sears here, and I'm not driving 45 minutes to return, and they charge for return shipping so lands end is out. i do have a top I got from there once that is great, but slightly too small but cost less than the return shipping so I kept it.

  8. Athleta for bathing suits.

    1. it seems downright unanimous. I'll see how it goes!

  9. Agreed with all who say Athleta and Land's End.

Insomnia ... UGH. I'm so sorry. My sleep hygiene completely sucks, so I understand. I don't want to go to bed as early as my husband does, so I end up on the couch, where I fall asleep at some point, then wake up because I'm still on the f*#&ing couch, with all of the lights on, and it's 2:30 and I've gotten two hours of sleep, and then I go upstairs but have woken myself up in the process and can't get back to sleep. UGH. I hope things get better soon...

  10. I love Seafolly mix and match separates for swimwear. Super quality supportive tops and a range of bottoms options. Are you in Canada? I have had several suits from Swimco (they have stores in Western Canada).

  11. Hello, friend! I have so many of your posts to catch up on but this bullet form caught my eye.

This might help with lay/lie: http://grammarist.com/usage/lay-lie/

    As for bathing suits, www.swimsuitsforall.

It is always such a let down when HOC is over. I watched Flaked and enjoyed it and plan to watch Marseille when it is released. Also, Kimmy Schmidt is back and I think Grace and Frankie returns on May 2.

  12. I found your blog though several other 'friendly' blogs - and lately have been 'bingeing' and catching up. I enjoy/sympathize with your honesty in prioritizing what gets done every day - I feel like every day is often a rebalancing act.
