One thing I'm really liking these days---staying up later and getting up later. There is a big difference between getting up at 5-5:30 and getting up at 6:30-7! I am NOT exhausted when the kids go to bed at 9, and G and I can stay up and hang out or watch TV. I really missed that, but I really couldn't stay up past 9:30-ish on my usual schedule.
I still get up at 6 AM twice/week to run before things get too busy on the streets on weekdays. But even on patient days, I haven't had anyone scheduled before 9 AM all week. I guess patients don't want to wake up early either? I actually did a telehealth visit with my psychiatrist at 8 AM (but I could join with wet hair directly out of shower).
One thing I'm NOT liking is the telehealth itself. Its still awkward, doesn't work well with certain diagnoses, and the no-shows are SOOOO annoying. I'm trying to give people the benefit of the doubt---who even knows what day or time it is anymore, and I certainly don't know what kind of chaos people are dealing with in their homes. BUT, they scheduled the appointment! Just a couple of days ago! Maybe make a note in your calendar or something? Set a phone alarm? Sigh.
Enough ranting, time to make the lamest "other support" document ever (I have none. Other support, that is).
LG was supposed to have a behavioral health check at the ped on thurs, which they turned into a teleheath on google duo. I had to spend 10 minutes trying to explain to the receptionist that no, the doctor could not just call us via google duo on the phone number they just called me on because IT IS A LANDLINE so did they want a different phone number. She just didn't get it when I kept saying it was not going to work. So there might be some of that behind the scenes that you don't know about...
ReplyDeleteBut everyone who is scheduled is signed up for the patient portal, and we call through that. If they don't show, I DIRECTLY CALL the person on the phone number they provided as a back up number to see if there is an issue. So no. If they call our office and there is an issue, I will call back immediately and work to reschedule. nobody answered phone/called/answered messages.
DeleteI wonder if it is the video component that is intimidating to patients? We have been doing phone-only visits and haven't had any no shows. We work in a low income area and patients have told me that they don't want to show their living situation on the video, and they feel like they have to dress up for their clinic appointments, so they would feel like they have to dress up for a video appointment.
ReplyDeleteYes, this is a real concern, so we did offer telephone visits for those that didn't want to/couldn't use video. But if they did opt for video, i dunno.
DeleteHaving normal sleep and wake times IS lovely, isn't it? I'm sorry about the no-shows. That seems like it would be very frustrating.
